GARY, IN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats won two games on Saturday completing a rain suspended contest and winning a 7 inning game, both against the Joplin Blasters. The RailCats (4-6) used 10 hits to win 11-4 in the first game and claimed the second one 4-2 in front of 2,398 fans.
Santiago Rodriguez (2-0) got the win in relief of Charle Rosario in the rain suspended game. He had plenty of help from the Cat bats who supplied season-high 11 runs.
Jose Sermo continued his hot streak going 3-4 with four RBIs and one run scored. Sermo now boasts a league-leading 15 RBIs on the season. Jeremy Hamilton added a 2-4 outing with an RBI.
Manny Arciniega, John Kovalik, Andy Roberts, and Taylor Black combined to throw five innings of relief while allowing four runs.
The RailCats continued the success into the second game of the day. Starting pitcher Richard Castillo gave up one run in the first inning but then settled in to last through 5.1 innings. He got the win giving up two runs on six hits while striking out three.
Jose Gonzalez carried the team offensively behind a towering home run and line drive double. He went 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Hamilton had a second consecutive two hit performance, this one also including a RBI.
The RailCats addressed some of their starting pitching issues and limited their errors while continuing their success at the plate. The team is now 4-2 in their last six games.
