RedHawks take opener in Omaha
June 9, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
The RedHawks never led by much, but they also never trailed in holding on to beat the Omaha Royals 5-3 Thursday night in the series and road trip opener at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The RedHawks pounded out 15 hits, their third highest total of the year, but managed just one multiple-run inning in improving to 28-32. Jason Hart's leadoff homer in the fourth broke a 2-2 tie and gave the RedHawks the lead for good in a two-run inning, yet closer Bryan Corey had a close shave in the ninth while up 5-3.
Omaha's first two batters reached against the RedHawks' closer, then were sacrificed to second and third with one out. Corey struck out Chip Ambres and induced a ground ball from Andres Blanco to end the game with the potential tying run at second.
Corey's scoreless inning streak is now 9 2/3 innings spanning eight appearances. Starter Derek Lee (2-2) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits for his second straight win.
Omaha starter Runelvys Hernandez (2-3) allowed 12 hits and four runs in six innings for the loss. The Royals dropped to 25-35.
Every RedHawk had at least one hit as Oklahoma opened the 12-game trip with a win on the travel day.
Robinson Tejeda will face Brian Boehringer Friday at 7:05 p.m. CDT at Rosenblatt Stadium.
