Portland Beavers News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jason Perry hit two home runs and Scott McClain knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Sacramento River Cats came from behind to defeat the Portland Beavers 12-11 Thursday night at Raley Field.

The loss is the seventh consecutive defeat on the road for the Beavers (30-29), who have also dropped their last two extra-inning games.

Beavers reliever Jim Brower hit Doug Clark to lead off the bottom of the tenth, then walked Andrew Beattie. Brower balked to advance the runners to second and third, and intentionally walked Nathan Espy before giving up the game-winning run on McClain's sacrifice fly.

Brower (0-1) gave up three runs, including a game-tying three-run homer to Perry in the bottom of the ninth, to take the loss for Portland. Reliever Ron Flores (3-1) pitched two outs in the top of the tenth for the win.

The River Cats (30-29) tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, drawing two walks, then getting three key hits and a three-run clout by Perry to score six runs and send the game to extra innings.

The Beavers scored five runs in the top of the fourth when Windsor loaded the bases with three straight walks, then Jon Knott hit a two-run single into left field. Jason Hill followed with a second two-run double to score Knott and Justin Leone, then scored himself on an RBI double by Bobby Hill.

Portland chased starter Jason Windsor in the sixth after back-to-back singles by Leone and Knott. Reliever Matt Roney then allowed three consecutive RBI singles and an RBI groundout by Ben Johnson before finally getting out of the inning with a 10-5 deficit.

The Beavers and the River Cats continue their series with a doubleheader at Raley Field Friday night at 5:35 p.m.

NOTES: Alexander's home run in the third was his second in two games and his fourth in nine games ... Windsor's eight runs allowed were a season high ... Paul McAnulty made just his fifth start of the season at third base ... seven Beavers players recorded at least one RBI ... at 3:42, Thursday night's game was the longest of the season for the Beavers.
