FARGO - Zach Penprase and Nic Jackson had three hits each, and Paul Burnside pitched seven innings in an 8-2 Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks victory over the Sioux City Explorers on Saturday at Newman Outdoor Field in front of a sellout crowd of 4,658.
After picking up only one hit as a team the previous night, the RedHawks lineup rebounded with nine off the Explorers pitching staff for their 14 th win in their last 18 games - while improving their record on the season to 29-19.
Three Fargo-Moorhead hitters had multi-hit games. Nic Jackson went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs, including a two-run double in the fifth that capped off a four-run inning. Zach Penprase reached base on three singles, scored three runs and stole three bases - a single-game team high this season. Buddy Sosnoskie batted 2-for-4 and C.J. Retherford had two RBIs for the 'Hawks.
After throwing 41 pitches and allowing a run on four hits in the first two innings, RedHawks starter Paul Burnside pitched another five innings giving up only three hits. Burnside (4-5) struck out and walked three batters, while allowing two earned runs for the victory. Mackenzie King faced six batters and pitched consecutive 1-2-3 innings out of the bullpen.
Sioux City starter Preston Olson dropped to 1-3 after giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits in three innings pitched. Ryan Wilkens gave up four runs in two innings and Ryan Lucero gave up only two hits in three innings of relief for the Explorers.
Leugim Barroso went 2-for-3, while Eliezer Mesa and Peter Barrows drove in the only runs for Sioux City (21-26).
