
More Pitching Help for Saints as They Sign Aurora University Righty Drew Gay

ST. PAUL, MN (July 6, 2013) - The St. Paul Saints are hoping the answer to all their pitching issues is youth. The sixth rookie to join the pitching staff is right-hander Drew Gay, who just finished his college career at Aurora (IL) University, a Division III school in the North Atlantic Conference.
The 25-year-old hurler was 3-5 with a 3.21 ERA with three complete games and one shutout in 10 starts. In 70.0 innings pitched he walked 22 and struck out 78 while opponents hit .213 against him. He was named the NAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 12. He threw a complete game six-hit shutout while walking one and striking out 13 in an NAC tournament game.
During his junior season, Gay received First-Team Midwest All-Region honors. In addition to his ABCA/Rawlings First-Team All-Region honor, Gay was named a D3baseball.com Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-Region, as well as the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Conference; the Pitcher of the Year award was his second in as many years. He led the Spartan pitching staff with an 8-0 record and a 1.63 earned-run average. In 77-1/3 innings pitched, he struck out 67 and opponents hit .220 against him.
In order to make room for Gay the Saints released outfielder Jordan Tripp.
The Saints roster currently stands at the league maximum 22 players, 11 pitchers and 11 position players.
