Laredo Lemurs News Release

El Paso, TX - Laredo ended a three-series losing streak tonight with a 6-1 win over the Diablos at Cohen Stadium.

The Lemurs (26-20) set the tone early, scoring two in the first inning. Short stop Jimmy Mojica led off the game with a walk and advanced to second on a single by center fielder Harrison Kain. Mojica and Kain then converted a double-steal on a strikeout of right fielder Sawyer Carroll. Designated hitter John Alonso drove in Mojica on a base hit, and Kain scored on a fielder's choice from left fielder Palmer Karr.

A two-out rally in the fourth inning would double Laredo's lead. After two fly outs, Jimmy Mojica and Harrison Kain both singled to put runners at first and third. Mojica and Kain would score on a double by right fielder Sawyer Carroll to make it 4-0. It was Carroll's 16th double of the season.

El Paso (11-37) tallied its only run of the night in the eighth. Diablos catcher Moises Montero hit a one-out single and later reached third on an error. Montero then scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Oscar Mesa. The Lemurs plated some insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a one-out, two-run home run from Brian Peterson that also scored Palmer Karr. It was Peterson's third homer of the season.

Laredo starter Jake Cowan posted his first win in a Lemur uniform since being acquired last week. The right-hander worked eight innings and allowed just one run on four base hits. Cowan (1-1) struck out four, walked just one, and retired eight straight at one point. El Paso starter Seth Lintz took the loss. Lintz (0-3) went five innings and gave up four runs (all earned) on eight hits with three walks and one strikeout.

At the plate, Harrison Kain had a three-hit night for the Lemurs. Kain also scored twice. Brian Peterson finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Laredo won the series from El Paso three games to one, and has taken six of eight with the Diablos this season. The Lemurs next home series starts Saturday, July 6th against the Newark Bears of the Can-Am League. It begins an 11-game home stand at Uni-Trade Stadium.
