Frost Plays Hero Again, Saints 6-5 Walk-Off Winners with Sixth Straight Home Win

ST. PAUL, MN - Adam Frost is making a habit of walk-off wins. During the St. Paul Saints last homestand he hit a walk-off home run and on Saturday night in front of the largest crowd of the season, 8,179, it was a single through the left side that brought on the celebration in a 6-5 win over the Kansas City T-Bones at Midway Stadium. The win was the sixth straight at home for the Saints

With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth and the outfield playing deep Jose Hernandez led off with a fly ball single to right. Dwight Childs, who entered play tied for fourth in the league in sacrifice bunts, laid down a perfect bunt that moved Hernandez to second. Dan Kaczrowski then hit a little tapper to the right of the mound. Pitcher Sean Toler fielded it and had to throw over Kaczrowski, but his throw pulled Matt Padgett off the bag. With runners at the corners and one out Frost lined the first pitch he saw into left, scoring Hernandez for the game winning run. Frost collected three hits for the third straight game and has now hit safely in 11 straight.

The game only ended up in the bottom of the ninth because the T-Bones tied it in the top of the ninth. With the Saints leading 5-4 Matt Meyer came into the game to close it out. After striking out the leadoff hitter he walked Padgett and Kyle Nichols. Devin Goodwin then hit a sharp grounder down the third base line that scored Padgett to tie the game and put runners at second and third with one out. Felix Molina was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Meyer then got Petey Paramore to hit a soft liner to the second baseman Kaczrowski who caught the ball and underhanded to Frost covering second for the double play.

For the third straight game the Saints jumped out to a big lead and it started in the first with back-to-back homers. After Joey Becker singled to extend his hitting streak to a career tying high nine games and reach base safely in 19 straight games, Brad Boyer drilled a two-run homer over the right field wall, his seventh of the season to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. On the very next pitch to Willie Cabrera he hit a solo homer to left, his sixth of the season to make it 3-0.

In the second Hernandez doubled, moved to third on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kaczrowski to give the Saints a 4-0 lead.

In the third Boyer and Cabrera led off with back-to-back singles and after a ground out moved them up, Ole Sheldon's single drove home Boyer to make it 5-0.

Saints starter Mark Hamburger cruised through the first four innings, but in the fifth with one out Paramore walked. Kody Hightower singled him to second and Joey Gathright's infield single loaded the bases. Kennard Jones drove home two with a single to make it 5-2.

In the seventh Jones singled off of Hamburger with one out. Jairo Perez moved him to second with a single. Padgett's RBI single made it 5-3 and chased Hamburger from the game for reliever Mikey Mehlich. Kyle Nichols walked to put runners at the corners and an RBI fielder's choice by Devin Goodwin made it 5-4. Hamburger went 6.1 innings allowing four runs on 11 hits while walking one and striking out four.

The same two teams meet in game two of the four game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium. The Saints are TBA while the T-Bones send RHP Eric Gonzalez (0-3, 6.03) to the mound. It is Faith and Family Day with a post-game concert from The Fairlead. The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
