Sioux City Explorers News Release
FARGO, ND- The Sioux City Explorers couldn't get the offense going Wednesday night as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took the win in game two of the series 3-0. The X's had a strong start from Heitor Tokar who pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just one run, but good pitching wasn't enough. The X's remain in second place in the West Division following the loss, but Fargo now moves to just two games back for the spot.
After three innings of scoreless ball, the RedHawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but Explorers starter Heitor Tokar continued to flaunt his dominance by inducing a comebacker that turned into an inning-ending double play.
The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when the deadlock was broken by Fargo on a Leo Pina RBI single off Sioux City's Tokar, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. X's reliever Franklin Dacosta checked in after that with one out and runners on first and second, walking one but keeping Fargo from scoring more.
After another scoreless inning, the RedHawks added some insurance in the eighth as Fargo's Scott Schreiber came home on a Correlle Prime single off Sioux City's Brenden Heiss, making it 2-0. The next batter, a passed ball from X's catcher Jake Ortega, allowed RedHawks Leo Pina to come home and extend the lead to 3-0.
Reza Aleaziz came into the game for the RedHawks in the ninth, striking out all three batters en route to his sixth save of the season. The loss represents the Explorers third to the RedHawks in 11 games this season as they look to claim the rubber match tomorrow night.
The Explorers wrap up their six-game road trip with the final game of the three-game series Thursday night against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The first pitch is set for 7:02 p.m. from Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, North Dakota. Sioux City returns home Friday night August 11 to begin a three-game series with the Chicago Dogs. Tickets for the season can be purchased online as XSBaseball.com, in person at the Lewis and Clark Park Box Office or by calling 712-277-WINS. You can catch all the X's action on aabaseball.tv and on radio at KSCJ 94.9 FM and 1360 AM with the pregame beginning 30 minutes prior to first pitch.
