Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
Four runs scored late by the Sioux City Explorers doomed the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to a 7-2 loss at Newman Outdoor Field on a muggy Tuesday evening.
The RedHawks jumped ahead early as Manny Boscan crushed a ball over the wall in right-center field for the game's opening salvo. Following a hit by pitch and a stolen base by Scott Schreiber, Correlle Prime singled into left field to give Fargo-Moorhead a 2-0 lead after the game's opening inning.
After a few innings where RedHawks starter Kevin McGovern forced a couple of double plays, the Explorers jumped ahead as they pieced together three hits and a defensive error to score three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Gov's night ended after pitching seven innings allowing two earned runs off four hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
The X's poured it on in the top of eighth and ninth innings as they utilized five hits, a walk and an RedHawk error to score an additional four runs to bring to game to its final score as the RedHawks left three runners on base the rest of the night following their first inning production.
With the result, Fargo-Moorhead suffers their third straight loss as they fall to an 36-38 record. The RedHawks will look to turn it around when they match up with the X's for game two of the mid-week series on Wednesday, August 9. The gates at Newman Outdoor Field will open at 6 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 7:02 p.m.
