Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, North Dakota - Colten Davis' seven shutout innings headlines Fargo-Moorhead's 3-0 victory over the Sioux City Explorers on a cloudy and breezy Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Offense was lacking early as Davis and Explorers' starter Heitor Tokar limited both sides to 11 base runners (six hits and five walks) total through the first five innings. Davis ended the night with his seven-shutout innings, allowing three hits and five walks while striking out three on the way to his third win of the season.
In the following inning, Fargo-Moorhead struck first. Manny Boscan led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk. Following a Scott Schreiber single, Leo Pina sliced a base hit of his own to left field to score Boscan for the game's opening salvo.
Following a quiet seventh inning, the Explorers threatened in the top of the eighth as they were able to put runners in scoring position. But a big strikeout by Garrett Alexander put an end to the threat and escape the jam.
The RedHawks understood the assignment and gave the pitching some run support. Schreiber led off the inning with a walk and would steal second in the ensuing at bat. After another walk drawn by Pina, Correlle Prime inserted a shallow fly ball over the second baseman's head to score the runner from second. Pina would score in the following at bat off a passed ball to extend the lead to three runs. That would give us the final score as Reza Aleaziz struck out the side to put down the X's and complete the shutout.
With the win, the RedHawks snapped a three-game losing streak as they rose to a 37-38 record. With Fargo-Moorhead's fifth shutout of the season, it forces a rubber match against Sioux City at Newman Outdoor Field on Thursday, August 10. Gates for the series finale is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. and the first pitch is set for 7:02 p.m.
