Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - LF Aaron Takacs went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, but the 'Dogs lost 8-4 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park on Wednesday night.
Takacs had his first multi-RBI game since July 14th, but the 'Dogs lost for a seventh time in their last eight road games.
Winnipeg (32-45) opened the scoring on a three-run homer from RF Max Murphy in the 4th inning, after LHP David Holmberg had retired the first nine batters of the game.
The 'Dogs (37-39) got two runs back in the 5th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, LF Aaron Takacs made it 3-1 with an RBI single before SS Drew Devine added a run on an RBI fielder's choice.
Winnipeg made it 4-2 on a sacrifice fly from 3B Dayson Croes in the 5th, but Holmberg worked around further damage and stranded the bases loaded.
Up by two in the 6th, Winnipeg scored four more times to take an 8-2 lead. Croes hit a two-run single with the bases loaded before SS Andy Armstrong hit a sacrifice fly. After Armstrong's RBI, Murphy added an RBI - his fourth of the game and 20th against Lincoln this year - with a two-out single.
The 'Dogs mounted a rally in the 9th inning. After the first three batters reached safely, 3B Luis Roman reached on a run-scoring infield single. Takacs later walked to make it 8-4, but as the tying run Devine bounced into a 1-2-3 double play and 2B Nate Samson grounded out to end the game.
Holmberg went five-plus innings and allowed a season-high six runs - five earned - on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts, taking his first loss of the year. RHP Devin Conn allowed two inherited runners to score and two runs of his own across one inning. RHP Carter Hope went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the 8th and RHP Nic Laio went 1-2-3 in the 9th.
C Luke Roskam went 1-for-4 with an 8th-inning double, extending his league-leading on-base streak to 41.
The series concludes on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 6:00 p.m. on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
