Oklahoma City Comets News Release
The Oklahoma RedHawks scored all of their runs in the fourth inning, but it was enough for a 3-2 win over the Round Rock Express Thursday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
The RedHawks scored three runs on four hits, including an RBI-triple by shortstop Joaquin Arias that gave them a 3-1 lead. The RedHawks were held hitless their final four turns at bat from the fifth through eighth innings.
RedHawk starting pitcher Edinson Volquez picked up his second win in as many starts. He went six innings and gave up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. It was the longest outing by a RedHawk starter this season.
Volquez threw 91 pitches, 57 for strikes. He retired 13 of 14 batters from the first to the sixth innings before Round Rock rightfielder Charlton Jimerson hit a home run to make the game 3-2.
RedHawk relievers John Wasdin and Ron Mahay combined to give up two hots over the last three innings with four strikeouts. Mahay earned the save.
The RedHawks start an eight-game road trip Friday in Nashville.
