Round Rock Express News Release

(Oklahoma City, OK) - Despite the two game winning streak the Express had going against Oklahoma, Round Rock fell victim to starting pitcher Edinson Volquez and the RedHawks, 3-2 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The 22 year-old RedHawk's pitcher ranks in the upper echelon of major league pitching prospects for a reason, retiring 13 of 14 Round Rock hitters in six innings of work.

After Volquez surrendered a run to Mike Rodriguez off a Royce Huffman RBI single, the RedHawks made a run in the fourth inning. Oklahoma got to Express starter Jared Gothreaux for three runs in the fourth before relievers Brandon Puffer and Dave Borkowski took the mound. The bullpen did not allow any Oklahoma hits over the remaining five innings.

The Express offense was held to a single run until a sixth inning home run by Charlton Jimerson. Jimerson's third home run of the season was not enough to overcome the RedHawks' 3-2 advantage, and the Express settled for a series split with Oklahoma.

The Round Rock Express return home Friday, April 15 for the home opener at The Dell Diamond. Friday Fireworks, presented by Bud Light, will follow the conclusion of the 7:05 PM opener against the Iowa Cubs and the first 5,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive 2006 Express magnet schedules. Ezequiel Astacio is scheduled to start for the Express on Friday.
