Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. -- Buddy Sosnoskie's three-run home run lifted the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks past the Winnipeg Goldeyes by a score of 6-3, in front of a 2,966 on Saturday at Newman Outdoor Field.
With 21 hits combined between the two teams, there was no shortage of getting on base.
Tim Alberts and Keith Brachold hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the second to give the RedHawks the first lead of the game. With a single from Todd Jennings, Fargo-Moorhead threatened to break the game open but stranded two.
Off of five hits, the RedHawks plated four more runs in the fourth including a three-run home run from Sosnoskie, his first of the season.
Winnipeg rallied in the sixth. Tyler Hess gave up solo home run to Fehalandt Lentini and after loading the bases with one out, Leonard Davis hit a RBI single to score Ryan Scoma and Josh Mazzola to make it a two-run ballgame. Nate Kilcrease came in to get the final two outs of the eighth. Chase Johnson finished off the game with a scoreless ninth.
"I feel more confident at the plate each day and they worked me hard in my first at-bat and I just saw the ball well," said Sosnoskie.
Paul Burnside got the win tonight for Fargo-Moorhead, going 5 2/3 innings for his longest outing of the season. He gave up six hits with no runs allowed.
"Burnside persevered through a bad back for a solid outing," said Manager Doug Siminic.
Goldeyes starter Justin Garcia went seven innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits to earn his first lost of the season.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks had six extra-base hits in Friday's game, the most since May 20 in El Paso. Zach Penprase, Tyler Graham, Keith Brachold and CJ Retherford each had two hits to lead the RedHawks at the plate.
Lentini and Luis Alen had two hits apiece for the Goldeyes (12-10). Patrick Keating pitched the eighth for Winnipeg, allowing an earned run on a Ron Bourquin groundout that scored Retherford from third.
With the victory, the RedHawks break the .500 mark with a record of 12-11, just a half a game back of the Goldeyes. The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
