
McDonald's Whopper Helps 'Nuts Beat Hamburger

ST. PAUL, MN- The Wichita Wingnuts (15-7) defeated the St. Paul Saints (12-10) 7-2 at Midway Stadium on Saturday night.
Jake Kahaulelio homered in the first inning for a second straight night, while Ryan Hinson pitched into the eighth inning for a third time in five starts this season to earn the win.
Ryan Khoury led off the game with a single to right field on an 0-2 pitch from Saints' starter Mark Hamburger. Kahaulelio followed with a two-run blast to left-center that gave Wichita an early 2-0 lead.
After allowing a one-out double to Adam Frost in the bottom of the first, Hinson retired the next nine batters in a row.
In the top of the fourth, Abel Nieves led off with a line drive single to center. Two batters later, David Amberson grounded a single to left field to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Jared McDonald then struck a two-run double off the right-center field fence to increase Wichita's lead to 4-0.
Dwight Childs hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Wichita's lead in half. Hinson retired the next seven batters in a row.
Wichita responded to the Saints' only runs of the night with a three-run top of the sixth. McDonald bunted for a single with one out and went to third on a bloop single to right by Ryan Khoury. Kahaulelio drove in his third run with a groudball single to left that scored McDonald. After John Rodriguez was intentionally walked, C.J. Ziegler walked with the bases full to make it 6-2. Cole Armstrong drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field off Saints' reliever Dustin Klabunde.
Hinson retired the leadoff hitter in all eight innings that he started. Hinson allowed two earned runs on four hits in seven and one-third, walking two and striking out six.
Tyler White threw one and one-third scoreless innings to close out the win for Wichita.
Nieves reached base four times, adding three walks to his fourth-inning single. McDonald was on base three times.
Hamburger took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in five and one-third innings. Hamburger walked five and struck out two.
