
Diablos New Players Make Impact, Monasterios Starting Tonight

EL PASO, TX - On the tails of last night's win, the Diablos are looking to keep the momentum going. The Diablos' two new player acquisitions, Jose G. Garcia and Omar Luna, made their El Paso debut last night and made a big impact offensively. Luna went 3 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 singles, 1 double, and an RBI. Garcia went 2 for 5, with 2 hits, and 1 RBI. The Diablos line up stepped up to the plate, recording 13 hits, 1 home run, and 8 runs scored. Giving the Diablos an 8-2 win.
The club is looking to keep things going offensively, while RHP Carlos Monasterios takes the mound tonight. In his third start with El Paso, and his first at Cohen Stadium, the former Los Angeles Dodger is looking to pick up where last night's winning pitcher, Luis Chirinos, left off.
Carlos Monasterios is a 6-1, 205 lbs. right handed pitcher from Higuerote, Miranda, Venezuela. In 2005, Monasterios was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent. In 2006, Monasterios started his professional career with the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Yankees, than the GCL Phillies, in which he posted a combined win-loss record of 1-4, with a 3.20 ERA, in 11 games primarily as a starting pitcher. In 2007, Monasterios played for the Lakewood BlueClaws, in which he posted an 11-11 record, with a 4.62 ERA, in 26 games as a starting pitcher. In 2008 and 2009, Monasterios primarily played for the Clearwater Threshers, in which he posted combined record of 10-14, with a 4.68 ERA, in 54 games primarily as a relief pitcher. In 2010, Monasterios finally got his big league break thanks to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Monasterios posted a 3-5 record, with a 4.38 ERA, in 32 games primarily as a relief pitcher. After his one year stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Monasterios played three games for the Albuquerque Isotopes, before coming to the Diablos in 2013.
Omar Luna is a 5-11, 165 lbs. infielder from Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. Luna started his professional career in 2007 with the Princeton Devil Rays of Princeton, West Virginia, and the Hudson Valley Renegades of Wappingers Falls, New York in which he posted a combined Batting Average of .285, with two home runs and 29 runs batted in primarily as a shortstop. For the next five seasons Luna moved around from team to team playing for four different franchises, in which he posted a combined Batting Average of .269 with five home runs and 137 runs batted in as an infielder. In 2013, Luna started the season with the Chattanooga Lookouts of Chattanooga, Tennessee prior to being signed by the Diablos this season.
Jose G. Garcia is a 5-11, 170 lbs. infielder from Caracas, Venezuela. In 2006, Garcia started his professional career with the Venezuela Summer League (VSL) Cardinals in which he posted a .241 Batting Average with one home run and 16 runs batted in, as a second baseman. From 2007 to 2012 Garcia played for two teams each year which were all affiliates with the St. Louis Cardinals in which he posted a combined Batting Average of .263 with 19 home runs and 182 runs batted in, as an infielder. Garcia started the 2013 season with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before signing with the Diablos.
