TONIGHT: The RedHawks open a 4-game series against the Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks), the only series of the year between these clubs. OKC lost last night's series finale 11-6 against Las Vegas, splitting that 4-game set. The RedHawks have a 3-game lead over Albuquerque in the American South. Reno is fourth in the Pacific South, 9.5 games back of Fresno. The Aces just swept New Orleans in a rain-shortened 3-game series.
DIVISION UPDATE: Despite losing their last 2 games, the RedHawks maintain the largest division lead in the PCL entering play tonight at 3 games over Albuquerque in the American South. OKC's magic number to clinch the division is 20. Including tonight, OKC has 22 games remaining. The RedHawks are 6-9 in August while the Isotopes are 6-10. In August, the RedHawks have added a half-game to their division lead.
COMINGS AND GOINGS: The RedHawks have experienced 7 player transactions in the previous 3 days. Outfielder Willy Taveras and reliever Jesus Colome were added to OKC's roster yesterday. Taveras went 1-for-5 in his local debut. Catcher Matt Treanor caught 5 innings in the first of a rehab assignment (strained posterior cruciate ligament, right knee), going 0-for-2. Colome has yet to make his RedHawks debut.
PHILLIPS STREAKING: Lefty reliever Zach Phillips has pitched 9.2 consecutive scoreless innings over all or part of his last 8 outings. The last runs allowed by Phillips came in the first of his 2 innings against Iowa July 17 on a 3-run homer by Brad Snyder.
ODDS AND ENDS: Yesterday's 11-6 loss featured the second-highest run total scored against OKC pitching this year. Iowa, with a 15-7 win July 31, owns the largest run total and margin of victory over the RedHawks this season...the RedHawks received solo home runs last night from Chris Davis (seventh inning) and Max Ramirez (eighth inning), snapping a 23-game stretch where all their homers came in the first 5 innings.
DAVIS AMONG LEADERS: Chris Davis is third in the PCL in hitting (.345), behind the promoted Jay Gibbons of Albuquerque and league leader John Lindsey (.369) of Albuquerque. Davis is ninth on-base percentage (.403).
PITCHING LEADERBOARD: The RedHawks maintain the PCL's best ERA at 3.91. The ERA rose .10 in the 4 games against Las Vegas, which scored 30 runs (27 earned). The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (79) in either affiliated Triple-A league. The only team to have more than a 2-homer game against the RedHawks is Iowa, which collected a pair of 3-homer games and one 4-homer contest in the concluded season series.
TIME CHANGES: The RedHawks' game on Saturday, Sept. 4 has been switched to an 11:05 am start time. The regular season finale on Sept. 6 has been changed to a 1:05 pm start.
