Rainiers, Mariners Extend Player Development Contract

August 17, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers and the Seattle Mariners have agreed to a four-year extension to their player development contract, guaranteeing the agreement through the end of the 2014 season.

"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Mariners, especially as we open a newly renovated Cheney Stadium in 2011," said Rainiers President Aaron Artman. "They have been terrific partners, since ownership purchased the team, on every level, and were very helpful in the process of securing the first major renovation to Cheney in 51 years."

The Rainiers have served as the Triple-A affiliate of the Mariners since the 1995 season. The team plays its home games at Cheney Stadium, which will undergo a $30 million facelift immediately following the conclusion of the 2010 season. The signing of this contract makes the Rainiers and Mariners one of just a few four-year affiliations in professional baseball.

"We are happy to continue our relationship with the great group of people associated with the Tacoma Rainiers organization for at least the next four years. It is also a treat for our fans to have the opportunity to watch the future stars of the Seattle Mariners organization play so close to home. It is a unique and convenient relationship that serves both the Tacoma and Seattle communities as well as the entire Northwest. My congratulations to all involved in helping this come together," said Jack Zduriencik, Mariners Executive Vice President Baseball Operations & General Manager.

The first-place Rainiers start the second half of their current eight-game homestand with a four-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes, with the first pitch scheduled for 7pm on Tuesday, August 17th. The Rainiers have 13 regular-season home games remaining this season.
