Tacoma Rainiers News Release
The Tacoma Rainiers posted their second walk-off win in their last two outings following a 7-6 victory over Round Rock at Cheney Stadium on Monday night.
Infielder Dustin Ackley led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a solo home run, breaking up a 6-6 tie between the two clubs. The blast was Ackley's third of the season with Tacoma and clinched a series win for the Rainiers in the final game of their four-game set with the Express.
The win puts the Rainiers back in first place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division with a half-game lead over Salt Lake following the Bees loss at Nashville earlier in the evening.
Ackley's late-inning long ball was necessitated by a Round Rock rally in the top of the ninth inning. Express center fielder J.B. Shuck erased a 6-5 Tacoma lead after he scored the equalizer on a throwing error by Rainiers shortstop Jeffrey Dominguez.
Tacoma outfielder Mike Carp led the Rainiers lineup after putting together a 3-for-4 performance and driving in three runs, including a bases-loaded double that help put Tacoma on top 4-1 in the first inning. Shortstop Tommy Manzella was the highlight for Round Rock, recording three hits and two RBI, with a solo home run in the top of the first.
Right-handed reliever Josh Lueke recorded his first win as a Rainier after allowing one run, unearned, on one hit over two innings, with a pair of punchouts.
Express reliever Chris Sampson suffered the loss, his second of the season, after allowing the Ackley homer on two hits with one strikeout through one inning of work over the ninth and 10th innings.
The Rainiers start the second half of their eight-game homestand with a four-game set against Albuquerque beginning at 7pm on Tuesday. Left-hander Ryan Feierabend (3-5, 5.23) gets the start for Tacoma, with right-hander Tim Corcoran (5-8, 7.04) slated to take the mound for the Isotopes.
