Round Rock Express News Release
Dustin Ackley's leadoff homer in the 10th inning gave the Tacoma Rainiers a 7-6 victory over the Round Rock Express on Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium. It was the third consecutive night the Express (50-73) and Rainiers (64-58) went to extra innings.
After the Express scored a run in the ninth to tie the game, Ackley connected on his third hit of the night which sent Express reliever Chris Sampson's 3-1 pitch over the right center field wall for the game-winner. Tacoma reliever Josh Lueke (1-0) picked up the win after blowing the save in the ninth. Lueke worked 2.0 innings, giving up one run on one hit with two strikeouts. Starter Michael Pineda limited Round Rock to three runs on three hits over 5.1 innings. Pineda fanned seven batters with one walk. Three relievers bridged the gap, allowing two runs over 2.2 innings before Lueke was handed the ball in the ninth.
Sampson (0-2) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits with one strikeout over 1.0 inning to finish the game. Jordan Lyles, the 19-year-old who made his second Triple-A start, allowed five runs on 11 hits with five walks and three strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Jonah Bayliss worked 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Round Rock got on the board in the first with a Tommy Manzella solo shot. It was Manzellas first homer with the Express since his rehab assignment began on Aug. 10.
Tacoma responded with four runs in the bottom half of the first. Mike Carp's two-run double brought in Ackley and Matt Mangina, who each led off the inning with consecutive hits. Following Carp's double, Brad Snyder doubled bringing in Justin Smoak and Carp. All the work was done with no outs.
A run was tacked on in the third for the Rainiers, extending the lead to 5-1.
Drew Locke's two-run double in the sixth, closed the gap to 5-3 for the Express.
The Express added a run in the final three innings, while Tacoma added a run in the eighth.
Manzella and Locke led the Express offense with three hits apiece. Locke's two doubles ranks him tied for seventh in Express franchise history with 31st two-bagger of the season. He ranks eighth in RBI (68) and ninth in extra-base hits (50).
Round Rock continues its ninth road trip of the season with a four-game series at Portland on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. CDT at PGE Park. The Express send right-hander Josh Banks (8-8, 3.86 ERA) to mound, opposed by lefty Cesar Ramos (4-5, 3.53) for the Beavers.
