LAST GAME:
The RedHawks won their third straight with a rain-shortened 2-1 win over the Sounds. A light shower started in the third inning, but rain was falling in full force in the sixth inning when the game was called. A.J. Murray rebounded from a rough start last Friday against Memphis to pitch six solid innings. The Vernal, Utah native was perfect after four innings before allowing two hits and a run in the fifth. Murray pitched a perfect six as well en route to the rain-shortened complete game. Oklahoma's offense tapped Brewers rehab starter Yovani Gallardo for a pair of runs in the fourth. Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in both tallies with a single.
SHORTENED, NOT SUSPENDED:
Oklahoma did not play in any rain-shortened game last season. Two RedHawks were suspended during play due to inclement weather, but both occurrences (6/18 at NOZ and 9/01 at ALB) were eventually completed.
GO FIND THE BROOMS:
Oklahoma extended its winning streak to three game with the win and look for their first series sweep of the year tonight against Nashville. The RedHawks only managed two series sweeps in 2007, including one of the four-game variety (Colorado Springs from June 2-5).
ROUGH STARTS... REVISED:
Headed into play Wednesday morning, the RedHawks had yet to retire the side in order in the first inning. A.J. Murray, who threw 51 pitches in the first frame on 4/04 vs MEM, needed only nine to mow down the Sounds for the first 1-2-3 opening inning in a contest this season.
"COMPLETE" GAMES:
Both pitchers went the distance in Wednesday's rain-shortened game, so both A.J. Murray and Yovani Gallardo earned a complete game on their respective tally sheets. They are the only complete games pitched thus far this season in the Pacific Coast League.
NASHVILLE AT A GLANCE:
Two players had hitting streaks stopped yesterday. Hernan Iribarren had his five-game hitting streak and his six-game on-base streak snapped with an 0-3 Wednesday. Adam Heether went 0-2, breaking a three game run with at least one hit. Only Brad Nelson was able to extend his string, now at five games after a double in the fifth inning... The Sounds are 8-4 in games that start before noon, dating back to 2004... Nashville is tied for the league lead in stolen bases, matching Colorado Springs and Round Rock with seven.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas has its game with Baltimore postponed due to rain. The Rangers and Orioles are playing a doubleheader today... Frisco had the day off... Bakersfield edged Stockton 2-1... Clinton and Wisconsin had their doubleheader postponed due to snow...
WELCOME BACK TO OKC:
Robinson Tejeda has been outrighted from Texas, but is not yet active. The hurler has spent portions of the last two seasons in Oklahoma, going 6-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 2006 and 1-3 with a 8.20 ERA last year.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
RedHawks skipper Bobby Jones is now three wins shy of 500 in his Oklahoma City managerial career. Jones spent two seasons at the helm of the 89ers in the mid-ninties, and is in his second stint as the manager of the RedHawks...
ON THE AIR:
Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008.
