RedHawks Final Game With The Omaha Royals

June 8, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

TODAY: The RedHawks play their final game at Rosenblatt Stadium in the finale of a 4-game set with the Omaha Royals. Rosenblatt, built in 1948, will be replaced in 2011 by a downtown ballpark for the College World Series and by a new facility in Sarpy County, outside Omaha, for the Royals. Omaha won last night's game 3-2 in 11 innings on a 1-out single to left by Alex Gordon. OKC leads the series 2-1 and the season series 4-3. The teams have played consecutive extra-inning games. The RedHawks have played 5 straight games that have gone 3 hours, 15 minutes or longer. Lefty Michael Kirkman is due to start today against Anthony Lerew.

DAVIS THE BULK OF THE OFFENSE: Chris Davis drove in both OKC runs last night with a first-inning, 2-run homer off Bryan Bullington. Davis went 4-for-4, becoming the first RedHawk to have multiple 4-hit games this season. Like his other 4-hit game May 1, Davis came up one short of a cycle. On May 1, he lacked a home run and last night he needed a triple. He had two chances to complete the cycle last night, but singled in the seventh and walked in the 10th.

STREAKS: Chris Davis is on a season-high 7-game hitting streak, during which he's 13-for-26 (.500) with 2 homers and 5 RBIs. Ryan Garko singled twice last night to run his on-base streak to 16 games. The only game where Garko failed to reach by hit, walk or hit-by-pitch was his RedHawks debut May 20 at Portland. Brandon Boggs has reached in 14 straight by virtue of 2 walks last night.

DAY OFF NO. 3 LOOMING: The PCL takes its third league-wide day off of the season on Wednesday. OKC opens an 8-game homestand against Albuquerque and New Orleans starting Thursday at 7:05 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

LOTS OF BLANKS: Despite winning 2 of the first 3 games this series, the RedHawks have been held scoreless in 27 of 32 innings. All 3 OKC runs on Saturday came in the seventh inning. The RedHawks scored 10 runs in 3 innings on Sunday, including 8 in the 12th, and plated both runs in last night's first on a Chris Davis homer. Omaha has been held without a run in 25 of 32 innings, but has not scored more than 1 run in any inning this series.

DIFFERENTIALS: The RedHawks own the best run differential in the league, having scored 289 runs while allowing 224, a +65. Fresno is second at +56. The Durham Bulls of the International League have the best run differential among all Triple-A teams with a +115, having scored 331 and allowed 216 runs.

GERMAN TRACKER: Esteban German is third in the league lead with 41 runs scored and second in stolen bases with 20. Sacramento's Corey Wimberley has 24 steals. German is tied for fifth in the PCL in walks with 32. He has the league's longest road on-base streak, having reached by hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 21 consecutive road contests.

BULLPEN WORKS OVERTIME: OKC's bullpen was needed for 6.1 innings last night when Geoff Geary had to make a spot in place of Omar Beltre, who experienced discomfort in his side. Collectively, the ‘pen allowed 1 run on 4 hits. In the past 22 games, OKC's bullpen has worked 86.2 innings, allowing 17 earned runs (1.77 ERA) on 56 hits while going 6-2.

PITCHING STILL TOPS IN PCL: OKC leads the PCL in team ERA at 3.39. Nashville and Iowa are tied for second at 3.71. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs in the league (28), 13 fewer than the closest team, Fresno. OKC has allowed the fewest runs (224) and earned runs (192), while compiling the third-most strikeouts (427) behind Sacramento (442) and Albuquerque (428).

MAKING HOMERS COUNT: The RedHawks have slugged 13 home runs that have tied the score or given them the lead in the fifth inning or later this season, including Ryan Garko's game-tying solo shot in Sunday's sixth inning. OKC has 51 homers, fifth-most in the league.
