For the third straight night the RedHawks got on the board first against the Wichita. Zach Penprase extended his hit streak to twelve games with a doubled and opened the scoring thanks to an RBI single by Jesse Hoorelbeke. Nic Jackson made it 2-0 in the third inning when he plated John Wagle, who had reached on a triple in the right-center gap.
After giving up the second run of the game, Nick Singleton was able to settle down and got twelve straight outs. Meanwhile, the Wingnuts' offense came back and built a 3-2 lead by scoring one run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Jorge Delgado brought in the first Wingnuts run with a double down the left field line.
In the fifth inning, Wichita had a golden opportunity to put a big number. Juan Richardson, who entered the game with the ninth best average in the league and over 50 RBIs on the year, came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Richardson was walked with brought in one run, but Joe Harris was able to cap the damage by getting the next two outs.
Then, Peter Barrows hit a solo home run to put the Wingnuts on top in the sixth inning. Barrows ended the night 3-for-4, the game winning home run, and a double short of the cycle.
Singleton's dominant performance in the middle innings, coupled with strong relief pitching and the Wingnuts were able to fend off the RedHawks hitters for a 3-2 win. Singleton (10-1) picked up his tenth win of the year and Josh Dew got his 14th save. Joe Harris (2-4) received the loss for the RedHawks, his fourth of the year.
