Sioux City Explorers News Release

Kansas City-----It was a tough night Wednesday for the Explorers losing a one-run game 2-1 to Kansas City and pitcher Richard Salazar losing a no-hit bid in the seventh inning as the Explorers had their five game winning streak snapped.

Salazar retired the first 14 batters he faced before giving up a two-out walk to Kale Kaaihue in the fifth inning. Then with two-outs in the seventh, the Explorers lefthander lost his no-bit bid when rightfielder Derek Schermerhorn lost a fly ball in the twilight by Kaaihue that resulted in a double and a RBI, scoring Jim Fasano, who had walked. Kansas City scored the winning in the eighth inning when Johnny Bowden led off the inning with a bunt single and in an attempt to retire him, third baseman Wally Backman, Jr. was charged with an error that allowed Bowden to take second. After a sacrifice bunt that moved Bowden to third, Jimmy Mojicia singled sharply down the leftfield line that scored Bowden with what proved to be the winning run. The Explorers were held to just five hits off winning pitcher Kris Johnson who pitched the distance to record his third win of the season.

It was the least amount of hits for the Explorers since being held to five hits at Winnipeg on July 19th. The Explorers will be trying to get back on the winning track Thursday in the final game of the three-game series at Kansas City with game time set for 7:05.

Your hometown X's return home tomorrow night (Friday, August 5th) to begin a 3 game homestand versus the Wichita Wingnuts followed by a (4) game series verus Gary Southshore beginning Monday (August 8th). Reserve your seats now by calling 712-277-9467!
