Amarillo Sox Evans Signs

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox announced today that right-handed pitcher Cody Evans contract has been picked up and sold to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization.

Evans will report to the Angels advanced single-A affiliate Inland Empire66ers.

2011 was Evans second season in independent baseball after spending the previous season in the Northern League with the Schaumberg Flyers. With Amarillo, Evans was 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in seven relief appearances. He converted all four save chances he attempted and stuck out nine batters in seven innings.

The 6-5, 190 lbs Huntington Beach, California-native was drafted in the 10thround of the 2005 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of Long Beach State University. The 27 year-old spend five seasons in the Arizona system, advancing up to triple-AAA Tuscon in 2008 where he was 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA in four appearances. His career numbers with Arizona totaled a 25-37 record with a 5.36 ERA. He appeared in 149 games with 90 of those coming in relief.

Evans joins Cyle Hankerd who was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies last week as the second Amarillo player to be picked up by a Major League organization. He is the eighth player sold to the Major Leagues from the American Association this season.

After dropping the first three games in the series, the 35-41 Sox will take on the 48-27 Grand Prairie Airhogs on Thursday for the final game of a four-game set at 7:05pm. The game can be heard by visiting www.airhogsbaseball.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
