RedHawks Down 'Birds, 5-1

Memphis, Tenn. - Oklahoma rebounded from being shutout Tuesday night to beat the Redbirds, 5-1 in front of 9,855 at AutoZone Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Adam Hyzdu put the 'Hawks on top in the first inning when he lifted a two-out double to left field, scoring Drew Meyer. Meyer drove in the second run of the game in the fifth inning when he singled to score Travis Olson. Meyer and Freddy Guzman later scored on a two-out single by Hyzdu to give the Oklahoma left fielder three RBI on the day and push the RedHawks lead to 4-0.

First baseman Jason Hart homered to left field off Redbirds reliever Randy Leek to lead of the sixth inning. The blast was the 16th long ball given up by Leek on the season, the most by any pitcher in the Pacific Coast League.

Mike Rose broke-up the 'Hawks shutout bid in the ninth with a solo homer to left. The Redbirds managed just six hits and struck out ten times on the day.

John Webb (3-6) suffered the loss for Memphis, working five innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits. Robinson Tejeda (3-2) earned the win for Oklahoma with a solid six inning performance. He allowed no runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

The Redbirds will turn to right-hander Travis Smith (2-1, 3.86) to try and salvage the series tomorrow. Oklahoma will send right-hander Edinson Volquez (3-5, 4.05) to the mound. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. CST.
