Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release
HIGHLIGHTS: The Oklahoma City RedHawks rallied to beat the New Orleans Zephyers 8-7 in 10 innings Thursday evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Esteban German singled in German Duran with two outs in the tenth as Oklahoma rallied from a two-run deficit in the inning.
Oklahoma City took an early five run lead to back Michael Ballard over the first four innings. The RedHawks tagged Tulsa-area native Brett Sinkbiel for a run in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth. Ballard allowed a leadoff single in the sixth to Chris Coghlan, walked Gaby Sanchez, and surrendered a three-run home run to John Lindsey that cut Oklahoma City's lead to 5-3.
New Orleans tied the game in the eighth inning on a double by Michael Ryan. Derrick Turnbow gave up a leadoff single to Coghlan, walked Sanchez before Ryan delivered the game-evening hit. Each team left the bases loaded late in the game before the Zephyrs took a 7-5 lead in the top of the tenth inning.
Pedro Strop allowed three straight singles to the bottom of the New Orleans order, including run scoring hits by Jai Miller and Brett Hayes.
In the home half of the tenth, Ben Harrison knocked a leadoff double, Greg Golson waled with one down, and Duran singled in Harrison to put Oklahoma City within two. After Julio Borbon popped out, Joaquin Arias singled in Golson to tie the game, and German singled to right on a 1-0 pitch to give the RedHawks a walk-off win.
Strop (1-0) earned the victory despite giving up the lead, while Brian Sanches (0-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss. Six different players had multi-hit games for Oklahoma City, while Borbon, Arias, and German drove in two runs each. Coghlan had New Orleans first four-hit game of the season, Lindsay drove in three, and Ryan knocked in a pair.
This four game series continues Friday night at the Brick at 7:05 pm. Jared Hyatt will make his second 2009 start for Oklahoma City against former RedHawk John Koronka.
