
Redbirds strand Sounds rally

Memphis, Tenn. - For the second time in three days Memphis had to hold off a ninth inning Nashville rally to win, this time 5-4 Friday night at AutoZone Park.
Nashville rallied to load the bases in the top of the ninth before Redbirds reliever Kelvin Jimenez recorded the final two outs. Jimenez struck out Hernan Iribarren before Callix Crabbe lined out to center field to end the game. John Wasdin earned the win in relief and Jimenez notched his first save of the season. Nashville reliever Erasmo Ramirez took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in two innings.
Memphis took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a David Freese RBI-double after tying the game in the sixth on a Brian Barden sacrifice fly. Josh Phelps led the Redbirds offense with a season-high four hits, including a two-run homer. Phelps drove in three runs and Bryan Anderson chipped in three hits in the win. Redbirds starter Mitchell Boggs gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits over five innings.
The Sounds grabbed the lead in the second inning with a four-run rally thanks to four hits and an error. Mel Stocker led Nashville with three hits. Starter Richie Gardner pitched six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.
The Redbirds and Sounds continue their series tomorrow night. Memphis will send lefty Jaime Garcia to the hill for his first start at AutoZone Park with Nashville tapping southpaw Sam Narron. The first 1500 fans will receive Memphis Chicks retro t-shirts. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
