Allowed 2 R on 8 H over 7.0 IP in 5/18 loss @ ROU (9-1 Express win) LAST GAME: The Oklahoma RedHawks finished a three-game sweep of the New Orleans Zephyrs Thursday afternoon, winning 6-2 and backing Eric Hurley in his second win of the season. Oklahoma outscored New Orleans 26-7 during the three-game series, and has won three straight games for the first time since the middle of April. The RedHawks got on the board early against Zephyrs starter Adam Bostick. Jason Ellison doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored on a ground out by Nelson Cruz. Oklahoma added a five spot in the second when five of the first six batters of the inning reached and scored, keyed by a two-run single from Travis Metcalf and a two-run triple from Joaquin Arias. That offense was more than enough for Hurley, who pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out five along the way.
BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK: The RedHawks have won three consecutive games for the first time since they reeled off five straight from April 17 through 21. Oklahoma has won back-to-back games three times during that span, but have fallen in each attempt to win the third straight game.
TAKING THE EXTRA BASE: Oklahoma knocked 35 base hits in the three-game series with New Orleans, 13 of which went for extra bases. The RedHawks rank 10th in doubles, lead the league in triples, and have hit the sixth most home runs in the PCL this season.
LUCKY NUMBER 13: Taylor Teagarden extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the second inning yesterday afternoon. It surpasses Jason Ellison's previous team-best 12-game hitting streak from April 9 through 21, and also ranks as the longest current streak in the Pacific Coast League. The University of Texas product is hitting .326 during the streak with 14 hits in 43 at bats, and has also walked 10 times during this stretch.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Texas edged Minnesota 8-7 in 10 innings... Frisco beat Tulsa 7-5... Bakersfield knocked of Visalia 5-1... Clinton fell at home to Beloit 5-1.
Iowa AT A GLANCE: The I-Cubs enter play two games under .500 and in second place in their division... Iowa has lost two straight and six of their last eight after having a seven-game winning streak snapped on May 13... Randy Keisler is the only starting pitcher during this series who is slated to face the RedHawks for the second time this season. Kevin Hart and Sean Marshall were with Chicago when Oklahoma last visited Des Moines, while Justin Berg was promoted from Tennessee on April 28. The RedHawks were in town April 19-22 and faced off against Mark Holliman (now with Tennessee), Mike Burns (now an Iowa reliever), and Sean Gallagher (now with Chicago), in addition to Keisler.
TIME CHANGE: The RedHawks have announced one time change that differs from the pocket schedules. Oklahoma's game on June 1 with Omaha is now slated for a 2:05 pm first pitch.
DOT-DOT-DOT: A.J. Murray returns to the rotation after missing one start due to a minor left hand injury... Jason Ellison's hitting streak was extended to eight games with a leadoff double in the home half of the first Thursday afternoon... Eric Hurley regained the league lead in strikeouts with five in yesterday's win. The victory also marked the third time this season that Hurley has not allowed a home run... The RedHawks combined to turn a season-high four double plays in Thursday's win over the Zephyrs.
