Valentino Pascucci led the Pacific Coast League with 34 home runs in an All-Star season with the Albuquerque Isotopes last season. On Friday night, he used the long ball to beat his former team. Pascucci led off the bottom of the 10th with a line drive home run that barely cleared the wall down the left field line. By a matter of feet, the Zephyrs ended a four-game losing streak and won for just the second time in 12 games.
Jesus Feliciano's two-out single past second baseman Andrew Beattie in the fourth inning accounted for the other Zephyrs run.
For the second start in a row, Tony Armas held the opposition scoreless on two hits over seven innings. His nine strikeouts were a personal best this season, and tied the Zephyrs' team high.
Armas left the game in the eighth for closer Carlos Muniz, but Muniz surrendered a two-out double to Chris Barnwell, and then a bloop single to Jai Miller to suffer the blown save.
Muniz (2-1) settled in to retire the final seven batters he faced to earn the win.
Albuquerque reliever Brandon Villafuerte (1-1) gave up the homer to Pascucci, the only batter he faced.
The second game of the series is Saturday at 6:00 p.m., with LHP Willie Collazo facing RHP Bobby Keppel.
