Sidewinders outslugged by Rivercats 12-10

Tucson, AZ - An eleven run 3rd inning by the Sacramento RiverCats was enough to down the Tucson Sidewinders, with a final score of 12-10.

Tucson got on the board early with a first inning grand slam by Josh Whitesell, one of two bombs by Whitesell in the game. The Sidewinders added another in the second before Sacramento exploded in the third.

A total of sixteen RiverCats came to the plate in the third inning, including ten consecutive batters reaching base. The eleven runs were the most allowed in an inning by the Sidewinders this season.

Tucson scored five more runs between the third and fourth innings, but could not close the gap.

Whitesell finished with 7 RBI on two homers and a double. The game marked the second multi-homer game for Whitesell this season and increases his team leading home run total to 11.

Rehabbing third baseman Chad Tracy and rightfielder Tim Raines, Jr. also had three hits in the contest.

Starter Chris Kinsey (0-2) took the loss for Tucson with Brad Kilby (4-2) picking up the win in relief. Brad Ziegler notched his seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Tucson and Sacramento will square off for game two of the four game set Saturday when lefthander Evan MacLane (1-3, 6.64) will take the mound for the Sidewinders opposed by righty Brad Knox (3-1, 4.28). First pitch is at 6:30. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:20.
