Memphis, Tenn. â 2B Hector Luna drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to score 3B Scott Seabol with the winning run as Memphis downed Iowa 3-2 to complete the three-game sweep of the Cubs Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
Iowa pitchers Todd Wellemeyer and John Koronka held the Redbirds scoreless on two hits through the first seven innings, but Memphis rallied for two runs off reliever Will Cunnane in the eighth, and reliever Jermaine Van Buren walked three batters in the ninth to load the bases for Luna. Iowa hurlers walked nine in the game.
Memphis starter Adam Wainwright allowed two runs on five hits in 7.1 innings, walking two and striking out five. RHP Brad Thompson picked up the win in relief, retiring all four men he faced. CF Raul Gonzalez had two hits for the Redbirds, who won their fourth straight game, and Seabol extended his hitting streak to eight games with a fifth-inning double.
The Redbirds head out on the road for four games at Omaha and Iowa and will return to AutoZone Park May 10 to face Las Vegas.
