Beavers head home on winning note

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Marty McLeary pitched five effective innings behind Portland's 13-hit attack to lead the Beavers to a 7-4 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Sunday afternoon.

Robert Fick hit his third home run of the season and had three RBIs for the Beavers, who snapped a four-game losing streak. The Beavers (11-11) begin an eight-game homestand Monday night at PGE Park, taking on the Salt Lake Stingers in the first of a four-game series. Portland rounds out its second homestand by entertaining the Sky Sox, May 6-9.

Damian Jackson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Kerry Robinson, Jon Knott, Bobby Scales and Fick had two hits apiece.

Jeff Pickler was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and three runs scored to lead Colorado Springs (9-12).

Fick's two-run shot to right field off starter Justin Hampson in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie.

McLeary (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, allowing two runs and four hits in his five innings. Brad Baker threw a scoreless ninth to pick up his sixth save.

Hampson (0-3) took the loss with five runs and eight hits in 4.1 innings.

Four Portland pitchers limited Colorado Springs (9-12) to six hits, but the Beavers issued six walks, including five by McLeary.

NOTES: The Beavers were 2-4 on the road trip, which included three postponed games. Portland is 4-10 on the road this season and 7-1 at PGE Park ... the Beavers, who drew eight walks, left 14 men on base Sunday.
