Sidewinders beat River Cats, win seven of eight on trip

Tucson used a six-run sixth inning Sunday afternoon to coast past Sacramento 10-3 at Raley Field. The Sidewinders finished the road trip with a 7-1 record and have won nine of ten overall and remain in first place in the Pacific Coast League South Division.

Tucson pitchers allowed just seven runs in the series. Michael Gosling threw five scoreless innings Sunday in his second start with Tucson earning his first win. Gosling allowed just two hits and struck out four four.

Tucson started the scoring in the fourth inning. Brian Barden doubled off the top of the left field wall, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Conor Jackson's ground ball to Mike Rouse was bobbled for an error. Juan Brito connected for a solo home run in the fifth inning, increasing Tucson's advantage to 2-0.

The Sidewinders blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning that featured five walks, one error, one wild pitch and a fly ball lost in the sun. Alan Zinter produced a two-run double in the frame. Andy Green also added a two-run single.

Doug Devore capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-run homer to center field, his team leading sixth of the year.

Mike Rouse drove in all three runs for the River Cats with an eighth inning home run and a two-run double in the ninth.

Green, Jackson and Carlos Quentin all produced two hits.

Tucson improved to 14-10. The Sidewinders return home to begin a four-game series against Sacramento and the first of an eight-game home stand. Darren Oliver (1-0 6.08) will start for Tucson against Sacramento's Jimmy Serrano (1-1 5.95). The game will be broadcast live 1450 AM at 6:30 p.m.
