Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson scored a pair of runs in the top of the tenth on a throwing error by Sacramento's Bobby Smith and defeated the River Cats 4-2 Saturday night at Raley Field. Tucson improved to 6-1 on the road trip and remain in first place in the Pacific Coast League South Division.

Sergio Santos led off the tenth inning with a single to right field. Craig Ansman was 0-23 on the season before he dumped a single to center field to put two men on base. After a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, Tucson had the bases loaded with one out. Brian Barden rolled a ball towards Smith who fired home but threw the ball past catcher Steve Jackson allowing a pair of runs to score.

Andy Green started the game with a home run off Sacramento starter Dan Meyer.

Tucson starter Jon Cannon had to leave the game after one inning with an undetermined injury. Mark Freed came on in relief in the second inning and surrendered a lead off home run to the River Cats Dan Johnson to tie the game at 1. Freed allowed just that one run in four innings of work.

Conor Jackson put the Sidewinders back in front 2-1, when he slammed a solo home run leading off the fourth inning.

The game remained 2-1 until the bottom of the eighth when the River Cats scored with two outs to tie the game. Brandon Medders retired the first two batters he faced before walking Matt Watson and surrendering a single to Johnson.

Shawn Garrett blooped a double down the left field line scoring Watson.

Kevin Tolar earned his second win throwing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Winstron Abreu threw a perfect ninth for his second save.

Tucson improved to 13-10. The Sidewinders and River Cats will finish off a four-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Michael Gosling (0-0 4.50) will start for the Sidewinders against Seth Etherton (0-1 1.88). The game will be broadcast live 1450 AM at 1:05 p.m.
