METAIRIE, La. - The Memphis Redbirds lost to the New Orleans Zephyrs 1-0 on Monday night at Zephyr Field. The Redbirds remain 2.0 games behind American Northern Division-leading Omaha, which lost at Iowa.

Memphis (65-72) outhit New Orleans (69-68), 5-3, but could not capitalize on an outstanding performance by Scott McGregor. The Redbirds were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

Greg Garcia had two hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games, and Jermaine Curtis reached twice, on a hit and a walk.

Redbirds' starter McGregor took the loss (5-10), throwing six strong innings, only allowing three hits with no walks. The lone run of the game was Kyle Jensen's 10th home run in the fifth inning. The right-hander struck out nine, matching a career high. He tossed 98 pitches, 67 for strikes.

Kevin Thomas, promoted from Springfield earlier in the day, tossed two perfect innings in relief with three strikeouts for Memphis.

Zephyrs' starting pitcher Jared Rogers got the win (7-4), and scattered five hits over six 2/3 scoreless innings, walking one and striking out three. He was relieved by James Leverton and Jonathan Albaladejo, who retired two batters each.

New Orleans' All-Star Chris Hatcher tossed a perfect ninth inning for his 33rd save.

In game two of the series on Tuesday, Memphis right-hander Boone Whiting (4-5, 4.42 ERA) takes the mound against New Orleans' lefty Brian Flynn (6-10, 2.86 ERA) for the 7:00 p.m. CT first pitch from Zephyr Field.
