Durham Bulls News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Bulls catcher Rene Pinto and center fielder Ryan Boldt both homered, however Redbirds designated hitter Dylan Carlson crushed three hits and drove in four runs, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh, as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment as Memphis bested Durham 6-5 on Tuesday evening at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds grabbed an early 1-0 in the first before 1B Jim Haley smashed an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. Boldt then blasted a solo shot to make it 2-1 in the third before Memphis took back the lead in the bottom of the inning thanks in part to Carlson's run-scoring double. Two innings later, Pinto launched a three-run shot to right, putting the Bulls ahead 5-3. Carlson, though, would bash a go-ahead three-run blast in the seventh to put Memphis up 6-5. Durham threatened with the bases loaded in the ninth, however were unable to close the deficit.
Carlson (3-3, 3 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, BB) reached base four times while recording a game-high three hits. Four Bulls batters, including Pinto (2-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) and Haley (2-3, RBI, BB), as well as 3B Jonathan Aranda (2-4, R) and RF Josh Lowe (3-4, R, 2B, BB), all posted multi-hit efforts.
Redbirds reliever Kyle Ryan (1.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K) earned the win, while Brandon Waddell notched the save. Durham righty Seth Blair (0.2 IP, H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB) suffered the defeat as starter Kevin Herget (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, ER, BB, 4 K) did not factor in the final decisions despite a quality outing.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 8:05pm ET. RHP Easton McGee is set to start with Durham and be opposed by Memphis LHP Matthew Liberatore.
The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 14 to start a six-game home series versus the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch of that series' opener is set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
