Red Wings Hold Bisons to Four Hits in 2-0 Shutout Win

The Red Wings pitching staff was in top form on Saturday night as the trio of southpaw Dietrich Enns and relievers Alan Busenitz and Nick Anderson pitched a combined four-hitter to give Rochester the 2-0 victory from Frontier Field.

Enns' three-hit, 5.2-inning outing enabled him to notch his third win of the season. At one point, he retired nine straight Bisons that came to the plate between the fourth and the sixth inning.

The Red Wings' bullpen followed up Enns' strong start, taking over right where the southpaw left off. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was the only Herd player to reach base against the Rochester relievers with a seeing- eye single that sneaked through the hole between short and third. Busenitz got the hold and Anderson closed the door for the save.

The Rochester pitchers only allowed two Bisons to get into scoring position-Gift Ngoepe reached third base in the third inning and Rowdy Tellez arrived at second, both after singles.

Rochester catcher Wynston Sawyer broke the 0-0 deadlock in the fourth inning with an RBI single to left that brought around Kenny Vargas. The first baseman reached on a single of his own, but a fielding error by Darnell Sweeney in left field allowed Vargas to advance into scoring position.

Then in the fifth, Bisons' starter Chris Rowley was struck by a line drive off the bat of Jermaine Curtis. After a short medical evaluation, he was given the green light to stay in the game. Curtis later swiped second and crossed home on a Nick Gordon RBI-single.

It took the Bisons until the third inning to record a hit against Enns, when Tim Lopes deposited a single to right field.

Right before Enns's exit, the Bisons got back-to-back, two-out singles from Rowdy Tellez and Danny Jansen in the sixth, but the opportunity failed to put a run on the board as Jason Leblebijian struck out swinging against Busenitz.

Rowley did all he could to keep the Herd in the game throughout the 6.0 innings he pitched without allowing a walk. He racked up seven strikeouts-all but two by swings and misses. Both of the Red Wing runs were scored while Rowley was on the hill, but only one of those was charged against him.
