Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Jordan Stephens tossed six solid innings, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game two of their four-game series to the Indianapolis Indians by a score of 6-2 on Saturday from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.
Making his third career Triple-A start, Stephens allowed just two runs on five hits over six innings but did not factor in the decision. The 25-year-old right-hander struck-out five batters and has now pitched to a 2.45 ERA with the Knights since being promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham on May 9th. Saturday's outing was his third-straight quality start with Charlotte.
The Knights scored first on Saturday and did so in the bottom of the second inning thanks to second baseman Juan Perez, who singled home the game's first run. The Indians came right back, however, in the top of the third inning and scored two runs against Stephens to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Knights loaded the bases and scored one run to tie the game at 2-2. Shortstop Eddy Alvarez scored the game-tying run when right fielder Michael Saunders grounded into a 6-4 forceout.
With the game now tied at 2-2, the Indians battled back in the top of the seventh inning and scored four runs against Charlotte's bullpen. LHP Robbie Ross Jr. (0-2, 23.14) allowed three runs on one hit and one walk in the inning. Ross faced three batters in the inning and did not record an out. He was saddled with the loss.
The Knights will continue their four-game series against the Indianapolis Indians (Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) on Sunday from BB&T Ballpark. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the Knights will light up the Uptown Charlotte skyline after the 7:04 p.m. game.
Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. Long-time Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action. The game will also be broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago with the "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and 1993 Cy Young Award winner Jack McDowell in the booth. Fans can also listen to the game in Spanish on 102.3 FM Latina with Rafael Bastidas and Ernesto Hurtado.
