Knights Nudge Past Tribe in Friday Night Bout

CHARLOTTE - The Indians fell victim to a run-scoring triple Friday night in Charlotte that propelled the Knights to a narrow 2-1 victory. The Indians drew seven walks on the night compared to six hits, and a wild pitch plated its only run of the game.

Indy's (24-20) lone run was the first of the game. Jordan Luplow opened up the fourth inning with a double, his fifth in as many games. After Kevin Kramer moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt, Charlotte (18-29) starter Carson Fulmer (W, 1-0) tossed a wild pitch during a four-pitch walk to Jacob Stallings, scoring Luplow.

In the inning's bottom half, Alex Presley reached on a botched groundball from second baseman Pablo Reyes that went down as an error. Two at-bats later, Presley came around to score when Patrick Leonard launched a first-pitch triple into deep center field. Mason Robbins beat out a hit to Reyes for an infield hit, giving him an RBI as Leonard scored to take the lead for good.

Fulmer nearly set the Tribe up for an early lead when he walked the bases loaded in the third inning. He relieved himself of the jam by inducing a double play from Christopher Bostick, a hard liner that saw Kevin Newman doubled off at second base.

The Vanderbilt product earned the win in his first appearance with Charlotte this season. Fulmer exited the game after five innings, allowing the earned run, striking out five and walking six. Three of his walks put a batter on after four straight balls.

Tyler Danish and Rob Scahill allowed four baserunners - three hits and a walk - to ensure the win for Charlotte. Danish earned his second hold of the year while Scahill walked away with the save, his third on the campaign.

Tribe starter Nick Kingham lasted just the opening inning in his first start with Indy since May 9. He allowed one hit and threw 11 pitches, eight of them strikes. Casey Sadler (L, 3-3) received the loss after pitching the four innings following Kingham. Neither of Sadler's runs allowed were earned and he struck out three Knight hitters.

The two clubs meet for the second time in the series and the fifth time this season Saturday night. The Indians will send righty Alex McRae (1-4, 5.13) to the hill to start and the Knights will counter with Donn Roach (3-2, 3.78). First pitch is scheduled for 7:04 p.m. from BB&T Ballpark.
