Louisville Bats News Release

ONE DOWN, NINE TO GO: The Louisville Bats dropped the opening game of a 10-game homestand by an 8-1 score last night against the Durham Bulls. The first four games of the season-long homestand will come against the IL South-leading Bulls, who swept the Bats on their previous road trip at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. This marks the longest homestand played at Louisville Slugger Field since a 10-game run from April 14-23, 2016 against Toledo (4/14-4/17), Columbus (4/18-4/20) and Indianapolis (4/21-4/23).

AGAINST DURHAM: Louisville and Durham meet for the second of three series this season and the first of two to be played at Louisville Slugger Field. The two clubs will meet 10+ times in the regular season for the first time since 2007, when the Bats went 4-8 against the Bulls. The clubs met 13 times during the 2010 season, 8 times in the regular season and 5 in the IL playoffs, with Durham taking two of three from Louisville in its last postseason appearance.

TOUGH SCHEDULE: Going into the 45th game of the season, the Bats are playing their 30th game against an opponent with a record above .500, accounting for 75% of the team's games to this point. Louisville currently owns a 9-20 record against teams that are above .500 in 2018.

BURN, BABY, BURN: Last night's starter, right-hander Anthony DeSclafani "Disco", pitched 5.0 innings in a rehab start, giving up 6 earned runs on 8 hits, walking one and striking out 8 while giving up 3 home runs on 93 pitches (70 strikes). It was DeSclafani's third rehab start of the season, first with Louisville, and 11th career rehab start.

THEY TRY TO MAKE ME GO TO REHAB...: DeSclafani was the fourth pitcher to join Louisville on Major League rehab assignment this season, joining LHP Brandon Finnegan (4/9) and RHPs David Hernandez (4/20, 23, 25) and Kevin Shackelford (4/22). In 6 combined outings for Louisville rehabbers this season, the pitchers have compiled an 11.08 ERA, 16 earned runs in 13.0 innings on the mound.

JOSH VAN HEATER: Josh VanMeter has been a man on a mission for Louisville lately, extending his hit streak to 5 games with a 1-for-4 performance Friday night, suppling the team's lone extra-base hit of the night with a double off Durham starting pitcher Chih-Wei Hu . Since his hit streak started on May 21, VanMeter is batting .364 (8-for-22) with 2 runs, 2 doubles, a home run and 4 RBI. His 8 hits are tied for third-most in the International League in that span.

QUACK FACT: Bats reliever Kevin Quackenbush surrendered his first run in a Louisville uniform in his 12th appearance last night, with his ERA still at a tremendous 0.71 on the season. He and Jumbo Diaz, who gave up his first run of the season in his 20th appearance for LOU in 2016, are the only LOU pitchers to go 12+ outings to begin a season without allowing a run.

#LETSMASH: To pay tribute to Bourbon in Kentucky, the Louisville Bats are re-branding tonight as the Louisville Mashers, with special caps and uniforms featuring a temporary Louisville Mashers logo.

HERRERA BROTHERS: Rosell Herrera and Dilson Herrera (no relation) appeared in the same lineup together on Friday, the first time that multiple players in the Bats' lineup share the same last name since Bryson and Josh Smith both started August 24, 2015 at Indianapolis.
