Missouri River Otters News Release

For the second time in less than a week, the Missouri River Otters defeated the division-leading Fort Wayne Komets in a shootout, skating off with a 5-4 victory.

Fort Wayne scored the only goal in the first period, and it came on the power play. Colin Chaulk threaded a nice pass to Jason Kean at the point, and he ripped a shot at the net. Otters goaltender Jason Tapp made the initial save, but Sean Venedam jammed home the rebound to give his team the lead.

Both teams dented the twine twice in the second period. Venedam was the first to score, as he ripped a low slap shot between Tapp's pads. The next goal belonged to the Otters, and it came on the power play. Barrie Moore walked in from the right boards and rifled a wicked wrister top-shelf to get Missouri on the board. The Komets came right back and regained their two-goal lead when Dustin Virag chipped home his eighth goal of the season. The offensive explosion continued a few minutes later when Mark Odut took a terrific pass from Moore and beat Fort Wayne goalie Tyler Masters with a low snapper.

The River Otters came out with guns blazing in the final period. They tied the game when Mat Snesrud flung a wrister behind a screened Masters, and they took the lead when Justin Quenneville roofed a great pass from Chris Bell. The Komets weren't done yet, though, and they tied it with two minutes left when Venedam deflected home his third goal of the game.

It was all Otters in the shootout. They got goals from Odut, Pettersen, and Moore, while Tapp saved three of four breakaways. The Otters goalie made 20 saves for his eighth win of the year, while Masters made 24 saves in defeat.

The Otters next game is Friday night against the Quad City Mallards at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 for this special Christmas jersey game, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Webcast at www.riverotters.com.
