All-Star selection process announced

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO -- For the first time in professional hockey history, the all-star teams will be named after beverages, its title sponsor's brands, Pepsi and Mountain Dew. The teams, selected into two groups, will be divided based upon their geographic location. Team Pepsi or "Group A" will be comprised of players from the following Eastern teams: Adirondack Frostbite, Danbury Trashers, Elmira Jackals, Flint Generals, Motor City Mechanics, Port Huron Beacons and the Richmond RiverDogs. Team Mountain Dew or "Group B" will be comprised of players from the following Western teams: Fort Wayne Komets, Kalamazoo Wings, Kansas City Outlaws, Missouri River Otters, Muskegon Fury, Quad City Mallards and the Rockford IceHogs.

The All-Star selection process is as follows:

Each UHL head coach will nominate seven players from their own team (one goaltender, two defensemen, three forwards and one rookie) to appear on the official ballot (Team Pepsi or Team Mountain Dew).

The League Office shall create and distribute an official Team Pepsi ballot and a Team Mountain Dew ballot to each member club in their respective group. Each UHL Member Club shall distribute the official ballot to a total of FIVE eligible voters, selected by the Club, and collect the completed ballots. Voters are not allowed to vote for players from their team/city.

The top two players (four defensemen) in each position, per group, shall be named to the all-star roster (twelve total players). The balance of each team (eight remaining players) will be determined by a committee comprised of the second and third place UHL coaches and league commissioner. The remaining eight players shall include the rookie that received the most votes in each group. Each UHL team shall have at least ONE representative.

Team Pepsi and Team Mountain Dew will be announced on Monday, January 10, 2005. The official starting lineup shall be selected by the fans via the Internet (www.theuhl.com ), and will begin on Monday, January 10, 2005 immediately following the announcement of both teams. Voting will conclude on Monday, January 17, 2005. The starting lineup will be announced on Wednesday, January 19, 2005.

The first place coach in each group (based on winning percentage) as of the final game on Sunday, January 2, 2005 will be selected as the head coach of his respective group. In the event of a tie, the league will utilize playoff tiebreakers: wins, head-to-head wins, head-to-head fewest regulation losses, head-to-head most goals for, head-to-head fewest goals against, coin toss.

The sixth UHL All-Star Classic will be played at the 4,806-seat Civic Center Plaza in Glens Falls, New York on January 24, 2005.
