Motor City Mechanics News Release

Fraser, MI – For the second time in two straight games between the Motor City Mechanics and the Rockford IceHogs, the game was decided in a shootout. The Mechanics defeated the third ranked IceHogs in a 3-2 win at The Garage.

David Bonk put the Mechanics on the board in the early going when he scored his third of the season three minutes into the contest. With 1:40 remaining in the period, Chad Peck picked up a lead pass from Bonk and walked in on Rockford netminder Michel Robinson to give the Mechanics a two goal cushion. Rod Branch was solid in goal for the Mechanics through the first period making 20 saves. Joe Burton notched his 999th career point with his assist on Bonk's goal.

Leading 2-0, Peck found himself with another breakaway opportunity at the 16:00 mark of the second but was whistled down for a two-line pass. Rod Aldoff scored to bring Rockford within one.

A Rockford power play goal was waved off five minutes into the third due to goaltender interference, letting the Mechanics hang on to their 2-1 advantage. Mechanics forward Dan Price clanged one off the cross bar in an attempt to boost Motor City's lead but with two minutes left, it was J.C. Ruid who got the equalizer for the IceHogs.

In the shootout, Jeff Goldie and Burton each scored for the Mechanics, while Rockford was unable to solve Branch. Burton is now three for three in shootouts this season. In goal, Branch made 42 saves for the Mechanics.
