LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO – When the whistle blew and players accumulated minutes on the sidelines, special teams looked to advance on the man-advantage while the defense pressured the puck on the penalty kill. It was the special teams that widened the margins in week nine of the 2004-05 season.

The Richmond RiverDogs were seven for seven on the penalty kill in two games versus Adirondack. Ryan Prentice scored a power play goal in the second and an empty-netter in the third with 1:05 remaining on Friday. On Saturday he scored a power play goal in the third with less than thirty seconds remaining.

Danbury forward Jeff Daw notched an assist on the power play on Wednesday versus the RiverDogs, scored two power play goals in the third period of the Trashers 4-3 loss to Flint, and notched another power play assist against Kalamazoo. In the Kalamazoo versus Trashers game on Saturday, the Trashers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Bruce Richardson scored on the power-play 3:47 into the opening period. But the K-Wings answered back with two power-play goals only to lose in the shootout.

On Saturday, River Otters Chris Bell set Justin Quenneville up for the power play, scoring just above Komet netminder Tyler Masters. On Saturday, Komet's winger Sean Venedam scored a power play tally and on Sunday, registered his first Komet hat trick including a shorthanded tally when killing a five-on-three Elmira power play.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Adirondack Frostbite - (2-1-0) – Goaltender Derek Gustafson is one win shy of 100 on his career. He is tied for sixth amongst Adirondack goalies in all-time wins (14) and second in goals against average (2.77)...Center David Burgess is on a four-game goal-scoring streak... Forward Justin Kelly is on a six-game point streak...Center Sylvain Cloutier has 400 points on his professional career after a six-point week...Adirondack is 12-1-2 when scoring first, and unbeaten in regulation when leading or tied after the second period (15-0-2).

Danbury Trashers - (3-1-0) – In the month of December, the Trashers have a 6-2 record and four road wins...Left wing Mike Bayrack's seven goals this month have accounted for half of his team's high for the season (14)...Netminder Scott Stirling is currently 11-0-1 in his last twelve appearances with his last loss on November 6th against Quad City...Thirteen players this season have scored at least ten points as a Trasher, with eleven of them currently on the active roster (Wingfield on IR, Duhart traded to Flint)...Mario Larocque (2-12-14), J.F. David (4-9-13) and Nicholas Bilotto (0-11-11) are in the league's top-18 defenseman scorers.

Elmira Jackals - (0-4-0) – Center Greg Koehler is currently leading the UHL in scoring with 44 points and 23 goals through 29 games...Netminder Greg Hewitt passed the 1500 minutes played mark Sunday in Fort Wayne...Defenseman Chris Shaw scored his first goal of the season Sunday in Fort Wayne. Shaw is leading the UHL rookie class in penalty minutes (95), is second in minors (15) and second in majors (10)...Defenseman Trevor Burgess is leading all UHL defenseman in scoring with twenty-one points. His nineteen assists are also a defenseman high.

Flint Generals - (2-0-1) – Right wing Bobby Reynolds played his 700th North American professional career game on Saturday. He also picked up his 500th career assist in Friday night's 4-3 victory over Danbury...Defenseman Mike Tobin played his 300th career game on Friday night...Right wing Jim Duhart has scored at least one goal in five of the six games since returning to the Generals. In the only game he did not score in regulation, he scored the game-deciding goal in a shootout victory at Quad City on December 4th.

Fort Wayne Komets - (3-0-1) – The Komets finished the week on top of the Western Conference with thirty-eight points and an 18-7-2 record...The Komets lead the league in goals (103), assists (172), and points (275)...Right wing Jeff Worlton scored his first professional career goal on Tuesday...The Komets four-game road win streak was snapped in the 4-3 shootout loss to Missouri...The Komets extended their home win streak to seven on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over Elmira...The Komets lead the league with eight shorthanded goals.

Kalamazoo Wings - (2-1-1) – Joel Martin recorded his first professional shutout on Sunday at Rockford...Left wing Kevin Kotyluk had a four point night on Sunday at Rockford and starts the week with a three-game point streak...Left wing Yannick Carpentier ended his five-game point and assist streak on Saturday at Muskegon...The K-Wings six-goal victory over Rockford was their largest margin on victory since their 7-0 win against Rockford on April 7, 2004 at Wings Stadium...Defenseman Greg Labenski and left wing Yannick Carpentier played in their 300th career game on Friday versus Danbury...Right wing Tyler Willis needs one more point to reach 200 for his career.

Kansas City Outlaws - (0-2-0) – In Friday's game versus Missouri, left wingers Jason Ruff and Jimmy Callahan each scored their sixth goal of the season...The Outlaws have signed veteran puck stop Mark McArthur to backup Maxime Gingras...Defenseman Vaclav Zavoral scored his second goal of the season on the power play against the Komets on Tuesday...Right wing Joe Seroski continues to lead the Outlaws with fifteen goals, twelve assists and twenty-seven points.

Missouri River Otters - (3-0-0) – The River Otters are 9-2-1 at the Family Arena and are on a seven-game unbeaten streak...Left wing Mark Odut is second in the league among rookies with eleven goals, seven of which were earned in his last nine games...The River Otters have allowed the fewest shots-per-game in the league, at 24.58...With an eight-game win streak, netminder Kevin Reiter is four shy of the River Otters team record set by Brian Regan in 2000.

Motor City Mechanics - (0-2-0) – Although Rod Branch was 0-2 this week, he made seventy-four saves with only seven goals against...Ryan Baker and David Bonk each scored a goal on Sunday versus Danbury... Mechanics right wing Joe Burton is only two points away from 1,000 career points. Currently, Burton has seven goals and six assists this season with the Mechanics...The Mechanics will take on the Rockford IceHogs this Wednesday.

Muskegon Fury - (1-2-0) – The Fury are 8-1-0 versus the Central Division...Muskegon is undefeated when they score four or more goals and when they lead entering the third period...Right wing Nigel Hawryliw scored his first professional goal on Sunday versus Missouri...Right wing Robin Bouchard (520) is two games shy of tying Mark Vilneff (522) for second all-time in Fury games played.

Port Huron Beacons – (2-1-0) – Stu Dunn's shutout on Friday versus Elmira was his first shutout since the 2001-02 season when he played for the Flint Generals. The two shutouts this weekend were his fourth and fifth career shutouts...Port Huron's home winning streak ended at six with a loss on Sunday versus Quad City...Left wing David Beauregard is second in the league with eighteen goals in twenty-four games...Center Aaron Brand sits in fifth on the Beacons all-time point list this weekend after adding one goal and one assist. Brand now has 37 goals, 43 assists for 80 points in 91 games played.

Quad City Mallards - (1-1-1) – Mallards forward Frantisk Skladany scored his first professional point while assisting on Mike Kompon's first goal on Friday in Rockford...Jeff Reynaert recorded his second shutout of 2004-05 season in a 1-0 shootout loss on Saturday in Port Huron... Defenseman Sergei Durdin recorded the first game-winning goal of his career on Sunday in Port Huron...Forward Mike Kompon recorded the first two-goal game of his career on Friday in Rockford. On Sunday in Port Huron, the Mallards received goals from center Jason Deskins, forward Mike Kompon, right wing Joe Dusbabek, and defenseman Sergei Durdin in a 4-3 win over the Beacons.

Richmond RiverDogs - (1-1-1) - Left wing J.J. Wrobel and center Jonathan Gagnon have points in five straight games... Richmond is 3-0-1 versus the Central Division...The 'Dogs play their first Western Division opponent on Friday at Fort Wayne...The 'Dogs have been held to under thirty shots in seven straight games...Richmond has been out-shot in eleven of their last twelve games...The 'Dogs are four for their last thirteen on the power play...The ‘Dogs have been held to under thirty shots in seven straight games.

Rockford IceHogs - (2-1-0) – Head Coach Steve Martinson won his 450th career game on Saturday versus Muskegon...Winger Eric Labelle has a penalty in eleven straight games, accumulating ninety-eight penalty minutes...Defenseman Nathan Lutz leads the IceHogs with seventy-nine shots on goal...Rockford is 17-0-3 when allowing four or less goals in a game this season and are 0-6-0 when allowing five or more goals...The IceHogs have held opponents to two goals or less in fourteen of twenty-six games this season.
