Red Deer Rebels Make Deal At The WHL Bantam Draft

RED DEER, AB - The Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club announced today that they have taken forward Brandon Sutter with the 6th overall pick in today's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. Brandon Sutter played with the Red Deer 'AAA' Bantam Rebels this past season.

The Rebels made a deal with the Brandon Wheat Kings to move up in the draft to the 6th overall selection from the 16th overall pick. The Wheat Kings exchanged draft positions in the first round with the Rebels.

As part of this deal, the Rebels have also traded prospect forward Tyler Dittmer to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Rebels also gave the Wheat Kings their 2nd round pick in today's draft, 6th round pick in today's draft, and 7th round pick in today's draft.

The Wheat Kings gave the Rebels their first pick in the 5th round of today's draft, and their 7th round pick in today's draft.

Tyler Dittmer (Born 09-22-87) played 'AAA' midget this past season in his hometown of Brandon, Manitoba. His team won the National Midget Championship April 25th. Dittmer was the Rebels 3rd round choice, 53rd overall, in the 2002 WHL Bantam Draft.

Red Deer Rebels Director of Scouting Randy Peterson - "We agreed as a scouting staff that if we could move up in the draft and get Brandon Sutter we should do it. Brandon has the character, leadership and skill that will allow him to be a Red Deer Rebel. We were comfortable in making this deal, and feel that Brandon will be an impact player in the Western Hockey League."

Brandon Sutter (Born 02-14-89) will be eligible to play full time with the Rebels in the 2005/2006 WHL season.
