The Calgary Hitmen have selected Centreman Brett Sonnie as their first pick in the 1st Round of the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft. Sonnie, a talented Centreman from Maple Ridge BC, was selected 13th overall by Calgary. Calgary swapped its 15th pick to Everett to select Sonnie in today's draft being conducted in the Roundup Centre in Calgary. Calgary gave up it's 4th round pick to Everett in the exchange.

"Sonnie is a very talented player and will be a great leader for the Hitmen. He was the captain of his AAA Bantam team in Maple Ridge, and we felt we needed to trade for a higher pick to get him." said Hitmen GM Kelly Kisio. Sonnie, 5'11" 155lbs, spent the 2003-2004 season with the Ridge Meadows Bantam AAA team.

The Hitmen also selected 21st overall and selected Defenceman Alex Plante.

Plante, a 6'2" 185lbs Defenceman, hails from Brandon MB. He spent the past season with the Brandon Wheat Kings Bantam AAA. "He is a solid defenceman that will definitely bring some added toughness to the Hitmen." Noted Hitmen Head Sout Brad Whelen.

The 21st overall selection was obtained by trading Jeff Lucky to the Saskatoon Blades at the beginning of the 2003-2004 season. The Prince George Cougars selected Defenceman Ryan Kerr from Lions Bay, BC with the 1st overall selection at the 2004 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
