Red Claws Sign Veteran Guard Gillespie for Playoff Push

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have acquired veteran guard Brock Gillespie.
Gillespie, 27, joins the team from Beirut Antranik (Lebanon) where he averaged 26.7 points and 5.9 assists per game. Prior to joining Beirut Antranik, he began the season with the Joensuun Kataja (Finland-Korisliiga) after being invited to and participating in mini-camp with the Dallas Mavericks this summer.
Gillespie played for the Auckland Stars in New Zealand in the 2005-2006 season and won the National Basketball League championship title. He was selected in the 3rd round of the 2006 NBA D-League Draft by the Austin Toros (34th overall) and spent the 2006-2007 season playing for the legendary Dennis Johnson. Gillespie spent the summer following the season playing for the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2007 Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando and Bobcats summer camp. He played the 2007-2008 season in Europe for Plus Pujol Lleida in the Liga Española de Baloncesto of Spain and BC Casta Nitra in the ExtraLiga of Slovakia. He spent the 2008-09 season with Benetton Olympic in Switzerland, finishing 2009 with Xacabeo Santiago in Spain.
The son of longtime NCAA Div. I coach Marty Gillespie, the 6-1, 185 lb. Gillespie played for his father, an assistant at Rice, where he was a teammate of current Red Claws teammate Morris Almond. He left Rice as one of the top scorers in school history with 1,007 points.
To make room on the roster for the veteran guard, guard Terrel Harris was waived. Gillespie will arrive in Maine today and be in uniform tonight. He will wear jersey #10.
