
Red Claws Earn Hard-Fought Showcase Win

Las Vegas, NV - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, got huge performances and erased two big deficits, en route to a 128-125 win over Delaware at the 2019 NBA G League MGM Resorts Winter Showcase.
Maine (10-5) was led by the bench. Jaysean Paige led the Claws with a season-high 25 points. Carsen Edwards, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, added 19 points and 7 rebounds in the win, while Two-Way Player Tremont Waters scored 16 points and added 5 boards and 5 assists. Bryce Brown pitched in 18 points, while Kaiser Gates added 17. John Bohannon added a monster double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Delaware (10-6) was led by Marial Shayok with 28 points, and Shake Milton, who scored 25 off the bench in the loss.
The Blue Coats got off to a lightning quick start. Marial Shayok and Zhaire Smith each scoring 5 points, Delaware jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead. Bohannon stopped the run with a lay-up out of the timeout, and Edwards added 7 consecutive points to cut the deficit to 3. Gates' three tied the game at 16. Wayne Blackshear's three put Maine up 26-25. After an entertaining 1st quarter, the Red Claws led 36-35.
In the 2nd, the Blue Coats started the quarter on a 9-0 run to extend to a 44-36 lead. Xavier Munford's bucket put Delaware up 10. Brown and Waters tried to keep pace offensively. Paige hit a late three to cut the deficit back to 2. The Red Claws trailed by as many as 12, but the game was tied at 63 at halftime. Paige led all scorers with 18 points at the break.
The Red Claws came out of the locker room on fire, with Edwards' three capping a 9-0 run. Brown's steal and dunk got the team going, but the Blue Coats stuck around. Shake Milton's three-point play gave Delaware an 80-79 lead. Paige's alley-oop dunk tied the game at 90, and Edwards gave Maine the lead on the next possession. Bohannon's driving dunk made it 94-94 after three quarters of play.
In the 4th, Delaware scored 4 quick points. Brown stopped that run with a three-pointer. Paige's dunk put Maine back up 2. Blackshear hit a big three, followed by a Waters three, and Maine led 111-107 with 5:00 to go. The two teams would trade baskets and leads the rest of the way. Waters fast-break lay-up put Maine up 1 with 2:00 to go. Gates' huge three helped put Maine up for good.
The Red Claws shot 43.4% (46-106) from the field, 31.1% (14-45) from three-point range, and 14-19 from the free throw line.
The Red Claws are off until after Christmas, when they return to action at Capital City on Dec. 27.
