Texas Legends News Release
LAS VEGAS, NV - The Texas Legends (10-8) finished off the 2019 G League Winter Showcase on a high note, defeating the South Bay Lakers (8-9) 122-115.
The two teams exchanged leads three times early before Texas took control. The Legends held an 11-point lead with a minute left, but South Bay finished with a free throw and three from Jordan Caroline to cut the gap to seven at the buzzer. The Lakers pulled within one before ultimately taking their final lead at the two-minute mark. Chad Brown responded for Texas and the Legends carried the 65-64 lead into the break.
Texas pulled away in the third behind a 10-point effort from Nate Mason, outscoring South Bay 30-16 to take their largest lead of the game (+21) and land at 95-80 going into the fourth. South Bay kicked into gear in the fourth making it a four-point game with 2:30 left to play, but Mason answered with back-to-back baskets to shut down the rally attempts.
Nate Mason completed his double-double early in the third, finishing the night with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 12 assists. Josh Reaves led the Legends's scoring with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals while Moses Brown added a second double-double for Texas with 16 points, 10 rebounds. Antonius Cleveland grabbed 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks, and Dakota Mathias rounded out the double-digit scorers with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. Texas finished at 48% from the field and 26% outside but dominated the boards 51-41.
Devontae Cacok had a game and career-high 32 points and 16 rebounds off the bench for South Bay who finished just under 50% from the field and 38% outside. Kostas Antetokounmpo added 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals while Talen Horton-Tucker and Zach Norvell Jr. added 14 points apiece and combined for 15 assists.
The Legends will hit the road next for a California trip taking on the Stockton Kings (12/27 at 9pm CT), Santa Cruz Warriors (12/29 at 8pm CT), and South Bay Lakers (12/31 at 9pm CT).
